Oil Spill Gulf of Mexico 2010 Satellite Images, Photos, and Pictures. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico was caused by last week’s Deepwater Horizon oil explosion and fire. Thousands of barrels of oil is getting dumped into the Gulf of Mexico daily as workers try to stop the spill.
A ruptured oil head is to blame for much of the damage.
Because many of us don’t live near the oil spill, seeing pictures is the only way to get in touch with what happened.
The spilled oil is already covering an area bigger than the state of Rhode Island . In addition, some fear that the slick could come ashore, which would do horrific damage to the ecosystem.
The fishing industry will be hardest hit by the spill. Shrimp and fish naturally migrate away from the oil in order to survive. The oyster population could experience some damage, as oysters are not mobile and the oil can get in their gills.
A satellite image of the oil spill is attached.
